The Grasse perfumery’s museums have an exhibition on Antoine Raspal, a painter who depicted with the most intricate precision the patterned petticoats, silk brocade taffetas and lace-trimmed casaquin jackets that symbolised Provençal elegance in the second half of the 18th century. Admire his paintings and drawings in the Musée Jean-Honoré Fragonard, which has gathered together the largest number ever of the artist’s works, including the best known. Complementing this, the Musée Provençal du Costume et du Bijou instigates a dialogue with these artworks through its exhibition of period garments that could have been worn by the painter’s models. A tour through a past society and lifestyle.
