  • Georges Braque and Henri Laurens, 40 years of friendship.

The converging destinies of two major 20th-century artists is the subject of this exhibition in 67 artworks from national museums, galleries and private collections. Painter Georges Braque and sculptor Henri Laurens felt the same need to experiment with space and rhythm, the same desire to rethink form and material, the same interest in simplification. After World War I the two friends abandoned synthetic cubism for a more inward-focused research, thereby progressing towards an art of quietude and equilibrium. They continued their work in similar ways, with considerable skill, over 40 years. The exhibition at Saint-Tropez Museum lets us to observe how they evolved through glued-paper pieces, oils on canvas and splendid bronzes.
