In his new Monegasque display space, Florence gallerist Fabrizio Moretti presents an exhibition in collaboration with art experts Dickinson.
Monaco’s gallery scene has grown in status with the arrival of several big names of international repute. This summer the Principality hosts the inaugural exhibitions of De Jonckheere and Birch galleries plus a vast hanging by Moretti Fine Art. “Buying and selling artworks isn’t an end in itself, art has a more intellectual side that we want to share,” states director Fabrizio Moretti, who is highly respected for his commitment to research. The tone is therefore set. The son of an Italian antique dealer, Moretti opened his first gallery in Florence when he was 22 years old and rapidly made a name for himself as an expert in Italian, especially Tuscan, old masters. After establishing Moretti Fine Art in London in 2005, he has now opened this 200m² gallery in Monaco’s Park Palace, where you can admire leading painters of Impressionism through to modern art. Here is Gustave Caillebotte’s Sailboats on the Seine at Argenteuil, bearing witness to the painter’s passion for sailing; there we have Boudin, Renoir, Pissarro... Edvard Munch’s Blonde and Dark-Haired Nudes introduces us to famous models employed by the Norwegian painter; Picasso’s Boy Leading a Horse, a rare work from his Rose Period, sits naturally beside a still-life by Juan Gris.
