Until 31 August the MAMAC in Nice presents the exhibition Painting of History by Stéphane Pencréac’h, in which the Western painter takes an entirely new path by choosing to illustrate, with big brush strokes, the history of the Arab Spring. "Gut-instinct" paintings of the people in revolt in four major cities: Cairo, Timbuktu, Tripoli and Tunis. Pencréac’h depicts just one notable event in each of these conflicts, through realistic paintings in which life and death mingle, the better to expose the violence suffered by these civilisations cruelly afflicted in their souls. The paintings take the form of four large triptychs to reveal the unbearable. Poignant artworks to read rather than contemplate.
