Jazz à Juan
An instinctive legend.
Jazz has changed, these days investing all genres, and since 1960 this international festival has in evolutionary spirit hosted a considerable number of those making its history. Opening this 58th edition and setting the tone are Lenny Kravitz and Charles Pasi. Then the spotlight turns on Marcus Miller, Norah Jones, Ibrahim Maalouf, Melody Gardot, Selah Sue, Tigran Hamasyan, Dhafer Youssef, Angélique Kidjo's raw power, and the frenetic Earth, Wind & Fire. A musical encounter between the Chick Corea Akoustic Band with John Patitucci and Dave Weckl is sure to be big news and Pinède Gould's age-old pine trees also welcome Nile Rodgers & Chic plus Biréli Lagrène & Charlier/Sourisse. 15 July is street-party night with acoustic bands.

Les Nuits Guitares
Beneath the olive trees
Intergenerational, original and showcasing the guitar in all its musical expressions, for its 18th year this guinguette-styled festival returns to the Jardin de l’Olivaie. Amidst the greenery and trees, Morcheeba makes a big live comeback, Kool and The Gang showcase their funky disco hits, and Catherine Ringer introduces the inventive "cuisine" of her latest album of listenable, danceable tracks: Chroniques et Fantaisies.

Lunallena
Alternative pop-rock
Pinède Gould continues its adventure in sound with eight performances over two nights in late July. The festival focused on today's music is headlined by French rap group Suprême NTM and Mancunian electronic duo The Chemical Brothers, who both burst on the scene in the 90s, playing their only PACA region gigs. Backing them up are the
sensual-pop Her, American reggae combo Soja, Bagarre, and Lucky Chops's big fanfare.

Monte-Carlo Sporting
Summer Festival
A shower of stars
It's time for Monaco's big annual music bash! As eclectic and international as always, it kicks off with Beatle Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band then continues with two months of concerts and dinner shows in the Salle des Etoiles or Opéra Garnier. Seal, Tom Jones, Etienne Daho, MC Solaar, Carlos Santana, Grace Jones, Il Volo
and many others will take to the stage of this 44th festival. It looks east with blonde bombshell Rita Ora and Russian star Stas Mikhaylov, along with an Oriental Night in the company of Lebanese singer Nancy Ajram. The 2018 programme finishes on a high with a Cirque du Soleil tribute to Monaco's history and culture.

Festival de Musique de Menton
Downtown
This festival of orchestral concerts, chamber music, opera, recitals and famous soloists occupies three of the town's emblematic venues: the forecourt of the Saint-Michel Archange basilica, the Musée Jean Cocteau Collection Séverin Wunderman and Esplanade Francis-Palmero. In the "great interpreters" line-up at 9.30pm you can hear countertenor Philippe Jaroussky and soprano Emöke Baràth, cellist Daniel Müller-Schott and pianist Nicholas Angelic, and the violin/piano duo of Janine Jansen and Alexander Gavrylyuk. Festive in ambience, the festival also programmes concerts at 6pm and there are even free-entry fringe gigs mainly by original line-ups.

Nuits musicales du Suquet
The essence of classical
Some encounters are magical, like that between the soul of Cannes's oldest district and the soaring notes of the classical repertoire. This 43rd festival curated by Misha Katz embarks us on four nights that start in Musée de la Castre's courtyard at 7pm with promising young talents and continue at 9pm with renowned performers on the stage in front of Notre-Dame d'Espérance church. Note the concert in tribute to Brigitte Engerer and a moving nod to journalist Aurore Busser. Piano and strings lead the field here, with Philippe Bianconi, Dan Grigore, Mikhail Bezverkhni, Augustin Dumay, Henri Demarquette and others.

Grimaldines
Good vibes
This festival takes over Grimaud château every Tuesday from 10pm, after free entertainment in the village. Bands and vocalists play with words and get the crowds dancing to music from here, there and everywhere in an event hallmarked by sincere friendliness. This year it features Imany's explosive melancholy and Jehro's incredible sensitivity while also providing another chance to appreciate Sinclair's positive vibes and Michel Fugain's atypical 50-year career.
