With his very lovely Le Muy estate housing the Venet Foundation, the Nice-born artist has created the perfect setting for showing his huge sculptures to their advantage along with works by artists he admires and collects. This summer, marking what would have been the 90th birthday of his “compatriot” Yves Klein (1928-1962), Bernar Venet is displaying a brand new layout of Klein’s Pure Pigment, inspired by an installation the artist created in 1957 in Colette Allendy’s Paris gallery. Klein had covered the floor completely in the ultramarine pigment he later patented as International Klein Blue (IKB). This “floor picture”, covering the 200m² Var gallery, became Klein’s imagined “land of freedom”, an almost mystical “expanse generating organic energy”.
