Longchamp

  • The Pliage’s ‘!’ moment.

Longchamp_Nendo.jpg

Inspired by the Japanese art of origami, in 1993 Philippe Cassegrain created his icon-to-be Pliage bag, which Maison Longchamp has now fundamentally reimagined in association with the Nendo studio set up in Tokyo in 2002 by Oki Sato. The remit? To design models that trigger that ‘!’ feeling! How? By reinventing the familiar so we see it in a totally different light, these reinterpretations of the Pliage as a multi-functional accessory being an exemplary case in point. But fear not, the DNA of the original product is retained in full – the nylon, the Russian leather, the flap, the foldability. The first version is a tote that turns into a cube for storage and transport, the second is cone-shaped with a single handle so it can be hung from a hook or rail, and the third is circular and draws on Japan’s traditional furoshiki folding cloths. The Longchamp x Nendo collection is styled for all tastes in a wide range of sizes and colours.
