set out to transform wood into hi-design furniture and make it the linchpin of a collection christened Smart Wood, this season comprising the K/wood, Q/wood and P/wood chairs in wood moulded into contemporary contours. In Philippe Starck's hands natural wood starts to behave like an industrial product and slips easily into the most modern interiors. To make these pieces the French designer employed a special patented technique. “We've changed paradigm, it's no longer about using wooden elements to build a frame (…). This way we are able to fully express the true essence of wood by bringing industrial manufacturing, beauty, sturdiness, comfort and flexibility together in a single product,” says Kartell chairman Claudio Lutti.
