The annual big ideal-home exhibition started 47 years ago is being given a new lease of life by Nicexpo.
It’s bye-bye to the Salon de la Décoration et de l’Aménagement and hello to Déco Meuble Design. Why? Paul Obadia, managing director of Nicexpo: “In 2014 the Chambre du Négoce de l’Ameublement et de l’Equipement de la Maison, which started and organised the show, approached us to take it over. We agreed, as that gave us two major shows six months apart: the Foire de Nice, which we already organise, and now this one. It’s quite a challenge for us, as it’s about proving we’re tuned into what our clients legitimately expect from such events. So our ambition is to revitalise and rejuvenate the fair.“ Give it a huge boost, in which the new name is just a start: “We want to reposition the show, take it upmarket and offer a more recherché selection of exhibitors so as to fulfil the expectations of people seeking the latest trends.“
Design and art
So in November the Palais des Expositions will become an immense showroom in which visitors can explore different ambiences and styles (hi-design, cocooning...), thereby catering to as large a diversity of desires as possible. Including art since that too is integral to our lifestyles. “It’s one of the big new ideas we’re introducing this year: a platform for artists, not simply for them to display their work but so they can make the connection between their creations and people’s homes. “In short, by offering artworks that have a function too, such as tables and lamps. One example of this is Connectif KKF’s Bidons de Secours, an art-design piece comprising four old jerry cans assembled to form a seat.
