Roche Bobois recently opened a showroom in the heart of the Cap 3000 retail complex: 730m² sporting 80 linear metres of windows! Welcome news as devotees have been somewhat at a loss since the Nice store closed – understandably given we’re talking about a French furniture company in business for 55 years with 250 stores worldwide, and a French lifestyle reference! The brand takes this reputation most seriously, concentrating on products that make a name for themselves. One is Kenzo Takada’s Mah Jong modular sofa, for the upholstery of which the designer drew on antique kimonos worn in Noh theatre, reinterpreting their patterns and colours to create delicate, sophisticated harmonies. A mention too for Jean-Paul Gaultier’s upholstery for the sofas in the Profile line designed by Roberto Tapinassi and Maurizio Manzoni. And we can’t overlook great classics such as the Legend bookcase by Christophe Delcourt, who opened up the eco-design path back in 2007. The showroom also provides an opportunity to admire more creative pieces, one being the amazing Zephyrus sideboard by Giacomo Garziano/GG-Loop, its expressive design of gull-wing doors and razor-edge geometry placing it somewhere between a transformer and a giant butterfly.
