L’hôtel de Gallifet

This 18th-century mansion adopted the Gallifet family motto, “Bien faire et laisser braire” (Do the right thing and let others say what they will), when a granddaughter married into the family. One of the descendants, Nicolas Mazet, has since turned the property into an arts centre: “The Mazarin district is undergoing a transformation rather as Venice has. The mansions bear witness to their past while opening their doors to contemporary art. It’s a way for them to remain eternal.” The sculptures by Arnaud Lapierre and paintings by Catherine Starkman colour the rooms with their intense presence. Lunch in the garden is an extra delight.
