Narrow lanes snake in and out between fishermen's houses. A century ago people walked these lanes, tiring themselves out climbing a hill or letting their feet carry them down, at the risk of picking up too much speed and falling flat on the rocks at Malmousque. When the motor car invaded Marseille, motor scooters took over Endoume, giving this village-within-the-town an identity of its own. So much so that it has its own football club. Encircling Endoume are the districts of Bompard and Saint-Victor, seeming sometimes to merge with it. The area's gentrification hasn't robbed it of its soul, and scooters still putter up and down its lanes.
