Ernest Pignon Ernest, one of the initiators of French street art, has been invited by Avignon city council to show over 4000 of his works in the Great Chapel of the Palais des Papes. Italian sketches, life-size street scenes, photos of wall collages pasted up at night in working class areas of Calais, Nantes and Naples. Iconic figures, in charcoal or ink, of artists her revered: Rimbaud, Pasolini, Antonin Artaud. The artist, a native of Nice, wants his deeply humanistic works to be intrusive, to create a shock in the places where he pastes them up. This is great art that perfectly matches the spirit of the place.
Jusqu’au 29 février.
