Revoir Guerrier.
Raymond Guerrier, who taught himself to paint by visiting museums, would have been 100 years old today. A devoted artist, he came to live in Eygalières because he was inspired by the bright light and rugged landscapes.

Raymond Guerrier, who taught himself to paint by visiting museums, would have been 100 years old today. A devoted artist, he came to live in Eygalières because he was inspired by the bright light and rugged landscapes. In the tiny village at the foot of the Alpilles, Guerrier developed a rich and varied repertoire in which drawing and composition are everything. Influenced by Braque, Guerrier transcended the figuration/abstraction dilemma. Little by little, his painting became rationalised, with large geometric surfaces, contrasting colours and omnipresent blacks. Guerrier’s work is strong and poetic, like the artist himself and his adopted village.
