The Musée Regards de Provence is paying tribute to architect and sculptor Sacha Sosno. A lively dialogue with the turbulent Nice schools.
Sacha Sosno grew up in the luxury of the Hôtel Régina in Nice, where he rubbed shoulders with Matisse. He studied at the prestigious Sciences Po institute of political science in Paris, then worked as a war reporter before launching his artistic career. This insatiably curious, prolific creative was often in discussion with his artistic peers in Nice: César, Arman, Niki de Saint Phalle, Ben, Martial Raysse and Yves Klein. Along with Yves Klein he signed the Ecole de Nice manifesto to stir up ideas among artists in the South, particularly the Nouveaux Réalistes around Pierre Restany, who proclaimed their adherence to the modern world by using metal, concrete, plastic, objects and advertising posters in their work. Sacha Sosno began "obliterating" his works, masking or removing part of a work in order to "show it" better. He later combined art and architecture by designing sculptures for living in – a world innovation best exemplified by the superb Tête Carrée (square head) which houses the regional libraries HQ in Nice. Sacha Sosno, who died in December 2013, designed the ArchiCote trophy for COTE Magazine La Revue d’Azur. All homage to a great creative.
