La Friche Belle de Mai in Marseille is an artistic world far beyond that of the Musée d’Art Contemporain (MAC), the private galleries and the Château de Servières with its exhibitions and invitiations to see artists at work. La Friche offers space for unique experiments in artistic creation, assisting projects and sharing them beyond the four walls of their environment. It’s a real cultural dynamic, in communicative exchange with alternative galleries, artists, musicians and independent artisan publishing houses, forging ahead off the beaten track, away from the usual distribution channels and official cultural programmes. So watch out for Astérides, Le Cartel, Le Dernier Cri, Salon Vendetta, L’Embobineuse and the Printemps de l’Art Contemporain, all at La Friche. It’s rumoured that collectors are deserting the downtown galleries for the buzz and excitement of La Friche.
