The Théâtre Silvain has emerged from its long sleep amid green surroundings by the sea. Since 2013 Marianne Caillebout and her friends and partners have been bringing celebrities of stage and screen here to read great texts in the open-air theatre where voices are amplified by the rocks of the creek below. This year's event opens with a reading of Inconnu à cette adresse (Address Unknown), a riveting fictional exchange of letters between an American Jew and a young German at the time of the Nazis' rise to power. On the second night Jane Birkin, Michel Piccoli and Hervé Pierre celebrate Serge Gainsbourg as a major poet. Francis Huster will be there on the third night to read the short story Le joueur d'échecs (Chess Story), written by Stefan Zweig just before his death. Three evenings of literary and theatrical intensity, on top of which come cocktails and a buffet where you can meet the performers. It's best to book.
