5th Festival International de Piano, La Roque-d'Anthéron
Each item selected by René Martin, artistic director of La Roque d'Anthéron's famous piano festival, confirms how rare and precious an event this is. Head here for outstanding confirmed pianists and up-and-coming young virtuosos, with fervent habitués and others who were first revealed at La Roque. There are four- and even ten-hand piano recitals, and not only piano: there are duos (David Fray at the piano with Renaud Capuçon on violin), trios and quartets, strings, choirs, leading conductors and ensembles-in-residence. A wealth of enjoyment.

23rd Festival International de Musique de Chambre, Salon-de-Provence
Clarinettist Paul Meyer, pianist Éric Le Sage and flautist Emmanuel Pahud, three world-class musicians, have been organising this chamber music festival for 22 years. Every year, Musique à l'Emperi, a.k.a. Symphonic Salon, draws a keen crowd of enthusiasts to listen to about 30 musicians including leading international soloists and emerging young talents. At 6pm each day a soloist or a quartet plays their own selection in the intimate setting of the Eglise Saint-Michel, then at 9pm there's a concert of symphonic works adapted for chamber orchestra.
