Fiesta des Suds

  • Marseille the music metropolis

The black continent is on the bill with all its many sounds, from politically conscious Africa with Ivorian reggae artist Alpha Blondy & The Solar System to Portuguese-speaking Africa with Elida Almeida from Cape Verde, who lulls us with the languor of the Atlantic shore. The sensual and passionate Amazones de Bamako invite Jean-Louis Aubert to sing Houellebecq. Vaudou Game from Togo-Benin produce an offbeat Afro funk while Cheikh Lô mixes every genre in the book. Spain is there too, with flamenco maestro Diego El Cigala paying tribute to Paco de Lucia, as are Latin America with Chico Trujillo and South Korea with the amazing Jambinai. As to emerging sounds, Minuit (shades of Rita Mitsuko) get everyone dancing and Aufgang have everyone spacing out till dawn. Also slated to appear are DJ Emile Omar, the duo AaRON and rappers Bigflo & Oli. Scratch Bandits Crew and A.S.M. are must-hear trip-hop electro bands, while Kadebostany embodies pop, funk and electro all in one.

The Dø, a French love story
The duo Dø – D for Dan and O for Olivia – was born from a buzz on myspace.com. They do French pop in English, playful and refreshing with impish lyrics and imaginative music. What this duo bring us is the miraculous fusion of two talents. The Dø are currently top of the tops for concerts and videos, and virtuosos in the art of living and creating together. French-Finnish Olivia writes the lyrics and sings them to music they compose together. Dan perfects the result with Pro Tools and a master craftsman’s rigour. Onstage, sometimes with a small band, Olivia Mérilahti and Dan Lévy have up to 60,000 fans in lascivious ecstasy without the slightest superfluous movement on their part. That is great art!
