This moving exhibition themed on the search for a Mediterranean identity is directly in line with MuCEM’s official remit. Exhibits include old and rare maps, drawings, sketchbooks, Orientalist paintings, old photographs, advertising posters, films and contemporary artworks. It’s astonishing to see the different reactions of the museum visitors to an exhibition that is emotionally charged and often disturbing, given the story it tells. This show is a must-go, be it for the history, the educational side or the aesthetics. Three institutions joined forces to mount the exhibition: the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, the Institut National d’Histoire de l’Art and MuCEM.
