The art of portrait photography. Musée Réattu in Arles has mounted two more exhibitions of works from its collections. Both are of portraits. Imago, Portraits photographiques presents about a hundred photo portraits by such masters as Robert Doisneau, Willy Ronis and Brassaï who set out to reveal the inner life of a face or body. When the subject is Serge Gainsbourg, Jane Birkin, Dali or Picasso, the intention is stylistic and iconographic. There are also ethnographic and biographical sequences like the one on Martin Luther King, and figures from the history of the
Réattu such as the founders of the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie, Arles’ famous annual photo festival. The second show, Jean-François Bauret, photographe, features some fine prints that the Bauret-Allard family intends to donate to the museum.
