Bluebeard and beyond – The Opéra du Grand Avignon has dared to stage Béla Bartok’s one and only opera Le Château de Barbe-Bleue (Bluebeard’s Castle) and Peter Eötvös’ Senza Sangue. Both are world premiers. The former is directed by Nadine Duffaut and conducted by Peter Eötvös, who is also the producer and composer of Senza Sangue, described as a modern-day counterpart to the Bluebeard story.
