The expected 60,000 visitors are in for a treat, with Deluxe, Louise Attaque, Moussu T e lei Jovents, H.-F. Thiéfaine and other gems. This Fiesta has been consolidating its Southern and inter-generational credentials year by year for the past quarter-century.
This year’s programme is as ambitious as ever, meeting the ever more wide-ranging variety of demand. Jeanne Added lends her graceful silhouette to the charms of a bewitching, jazzy voice, feeding her style (described as ‘‘French scene’’) from a range of disciplines, both classical and avant-garde. Her encounter with a demanding public will provide a note of ‘‘soft elegance’’ amid the torrent of explosive sounds and rhythms at which Dub Inc, Naive New Beaters, Skip and Die etc. excel. For nostalgia fans, Louise Attaque are back with their new album Anomalie, while the well-established singer-songwriter Hubert-Félix Thiéfaine chips in with his special brand of humorously melancholic pop rock. Special mention in this panorama of current music trends for a local female duo from Aubagne, Swan Ink, who attracted attention at the Orizon Sud talent launchpad. They do a kind of subtly offbeat mix that’s slightly unearthly, a touch acoustic and always original. Adding further to the Fiesta’s eclectic fun and key to its good-humoured ambience is the Fiesta des Minots, a day devoted to kids and their talents. Its labyrinth of venues, bistros, food trucks, VIP areas and simultaneous concerts make the Fiesta des Suds a truly joyful occasion, enlivening the lengthening nights of autumn like an act of faith in the value of being together.
