Marseille, founded by seafaring Phocaeans, is the oldest town in France and also a capital of undersea research. The ocean floor has been called «the world’s biggest museum», and this exhibition shows us why, with a fascinating collection of precious or moving relics fished up from wrecks. It also explains the past and present technology of undersea exploration. As well as all the treasures on view, films and archive items tell the epic tale of undersea research (with famous divers such as Jacques-Yves Cousteau) and consider the protection of the riches that sleep beneath the waves.
