This is the 12th time Christiane Michel has brought the public together with artists and galleries in the lovely springtime surroundings of the Parc Jourdain in Aix-en-Provence.
In Aix, where Cezanne comes constantly to mind, art and nature are perfectly at ease together. And there’s more to be seen at each edition of this very smart open-air contemporary art fair, so keep a sharp lookout as you amble along the alleys between the rows of booths. Hundreds of artists are showing their work and thousands of visitors – 24,000 in fact – are expected this year. Areas named after Cézanne, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, Dali etc. host galleries from Korea, Japan, Spain, Italy, Belgium and other parts of Europe. A fruitful mix for lively interchange of appreciations and opinions! Monumental works and pop-up installations dot the lawns. There is so much to be seen you’ll be hard put to resist taking home a drawing, a painting or ... This year for the first time there are design objects and works by craft artists too. For the past few years an artist has been guest of honour each time, running workshops and producing a performance on the opening day (11 May). This year it’s the Aix street artist Dire 132, a familiar face in Street Art circles.
