This grand old town house has been an arts centre for several years now: history, contemporary art and the pleasure of living brought together in one place. Let’s take a tour.
From June, this fine house in the Mazarin district, built of yellow stone, is hosting an exhibition of about 60 photographs from the excellent HSBC Collection. HSBC has been involved with photography for 20 years now, awarding prizes every year to promote photographers destined for great things.
Summer in the shade
While we’re there, a break in the garden is called for, with some light refreshments in the shade of the big trees. The garden café is open from June to September – a place to rendezvous with friends or take a quiet break, comfortably settled under the rustling leaves, enjoying a snack prepared by Monsieur Chou, the creative pastry chef nearby.
Jazz nights
Hôtel de Gallifet puts on a live jazz show every Thursday from 15 June, starting at 7.30pm. The programme is varied, and you can come just for the music or for dinner as well. A ticket for the first concert, at €25, includes the membership fee for Les Amis de H2G; subsequent concerts cost €17. Tables are set around the stage and the meal costs an additional €35. Advance booking recommended!
