Antoine Raspal was the uncle of Jacques Réattu, whose paintings are also hung in the museum named after him. Raspal painted the aristocracy and high bourgeoisie of Provence on the eve of the French revolution. He received
a classical art training and imbibed the work of the Renaissance masters, but his portraits and genre paintings reveal a unique style. Many of these meticulously detailed paintings feature garments made by his sisters in their workshop in Arles. This show is a moving journey back in time; Raspal bears attentive witness to his age.
