Maybe this summer you were sharing your portraits, selfies, beach scenes and such via Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, but now’s the time to enjoy the exploits of some outstanding shutterbugs whose works are on show in Marseille and Aix-en-Provence.
The 8th edition of the Photographie Marseille festival is true to its tradition. This year’s VIP guest is Monique Deregibus, who will be at FRAC to show her vision of Lebanon. At Maison Blanche you can see some stunning work by Shinji Nagabé, a Brazilian photographer of Japanese parentage who won top prize in the Maison Blanche photography competition. At Hôpital de la Timone there’s a wonderful exhibition of photos of masks and costumes put together by Christophe Asso – a big event! While the festival lasts there are things happening all over town: exhibitions, workshops, encounters, talks and, for the first time,
a photography book fair.
Phot’Aix & Regards Croisés
Over in Aix-en-Provence, Phot’Aix comprises some 20 exhibitions in different places around town, including the Musée des Tapisseries tapestry museum, Pavillon Vendôme, Couvent des Prêcheurs, Cité du Livre and Hôtel Concorde. Part of the festival is Regards Croisés, in which works by noted photographers from another country are shown alongside those of their France-based counterparts. This year the focus is on Austria, with photos bearing such titles as Inner Light, Botanix, Neverland and X-Ray. Guided tours around town take such themes as Love, Vanity and Motionless Journeys: the stuff of dreams!
