With its fifth vendanges étoilées on 20-28 September, Cassis again brings together Michelin-starred chefs and all the region's culinary skills around its AOC wines. The perfect way to prolong a summer break.
Cassis wines have enjoyed a high reputation since the 13th century and were granted AOC status in 1936; Frédéric Mistral wrote of them that "the bee has no honey sweeter". What a great idea, this week-long celebration when the wines of the appellation's 12 estates are wed with some sublime dishes! Once again the 20-odd partner restaurateurs concoct special menus, young chefs demonstrate their recipes at the Provençal market on Place Baragnon, and there are foodie workshops for kids at the Four Banal. The high point of it all is a day of show cooking by four Michelin-starred chefs at L'Oustau Calendal. Another must this year is the garden party and dinner at Villa Madie, where Michel Portos, Lionel Lévy, Jean-François Bérard, Guillaume Gaudin and Alexandre Mazzia once again vie to produce the most delicious dish under the attentive eye of Gérald Passédat and with owner Dimitri Droisneau standing by to aid and abet. This is all about tasting, socialising, learning, discovering and receiving – sharing, in a word. Sharing pure pleasure.
