Let yourself succumb to the talented young chef who’s been at the helm at the Ventre de l’Architecte for the past year.
The Ventre de l’Architecte is the restaurant in the Hôtel Le Corbusier on the third floor of the famous Cité Radieuse. Under Dominique and Alban Gérardin the place has been completely rethought and refitted, while scrupulously keeping to the decorative canons of the 1950s. The result is breathtaking. Apart from the decor, the great discovery is Jérôme Caprin, a chef full of promise who always wants to know how his customers feel about his food. It’s not so much a mania, more the love of a job well done. “I put the best of myself into the dishes I prepare,“ he says. “I love working with fish, especially bass and rockfish, probably because they’re what I do best.“ Rabbit is another forte, cooked whatever way he feels like on the day. His personal touch? A Provençal slant of course, but always with some added rare ingredient like black Japanese garlic, microvegetables, a lamb dish or rib roast in hay. You should know that here, where guest numbers are limited to 30, you will be dining at tables designed by Charlotte Perriand and Jean Prouvé, with lighting by Laroche. Which is great, because Jérôme, being an art history buff, is always radiant with admiration for his workplace.
