As the fourth generation of a family of confectioners, Sylvie’s delight in creative sweets and biscuits was nourished from infancy.
The story of Fruidoraix began in 1880 with Sylvie’s great-grandmother Epiphanie. The women of the family have inherited her will to succeed and her taste0 for tradition ever since. In 1957 Sylvie’s parents started making traditional calissons again and launched Madame Victorine hazelnut nougat. In those days Sylvie played at selling sweets from a stall made of delivery cartons in the family workshop. In 1992 she and her husband Gilles took over the firm and developed new collections of nougats, crystallised fruit, navettes etc. Keeping to the Fruidoraix tradition of ancestral recipes, artisanal methods and raw materials sourced from local suppliers, they have enriched the concept with 21st-century ideas; they use eco-labelled packaging and amusingly retro designs, work to reduce environmental impact, deliver in small vehicles and produce to order to ensure product freshness. Most striking of all is their very different sales style, offering a refined tasting experience and heartfelt personalised service based around a warm sense of human contact, shared pleasure and generosity. The charity box on the counter is for Point Rose, which organises palliative care for sick children.
