Puyricard is a name mouth-wateringly to familiar to French chocoholics. From now on, as well as being the name of this small town near Aix, it's synonymous with all kinds of deliciousness.

A year ago, property promoter Chocomaix laid the foundation stone of Commerces de la Bastide, a new-concept shopping centre specialising in high end artisan food. It's no coincidence that this year is the 50th anniversary of the celebrated Puyricard chocolate factory, which once occupied the site (over 2000m2) where the new complex now stands. Patrick Ardizzoni and Régis Del Sale officially opened the new foodie haven in November. Del Sale says the new complex is designed to provide a dedicated space for high-end food shopping "that honours the know-how of the food crafts, the terroir and the site's prestigious history". Bakers, a pasta maker, a cook and an organic grocer will open their doors beside Chocolaterie de Puyricard, whose 300m2 premises are split between the shop and the new Atelier du Chocolat where the public can try their hand.

Bring a big bag!
Temptation and gourmandise! Dare to venture into Boulangerie-Pâtisserie Delory & Jouveau, where said two friends sell their classic and special breads, viennoiseries made with real butter, macarons, cakes and galettes, not to mention Christmas desserts. Everything is made right there. The same goes for the fresh pasta from Maison Luccioni: lasagne, dishes and sauces, and ravioli stuffed with goat cheese and honey, lamb and thyme or beef and spinach. They have Corsican charcuterie too. And then off to Épicerie Beo for everything else.

Restaurant and services
You're bound to be starving after all that so settle in at La Bulle to enjoy bistronomy at lunchtime or semi-gastronomic fare in the evening. Chef Cédric Carjuzaa indulges his epicurean spirit in a somewhat modern-loft style setting with a festive but tasteful atmosphere. Avid carnivores will have their dreams fulfilled at Rôtisserie de La Bastide or the Steak House. Innova Clean is an organic dry cleaner and, as a finishing touch to this epicurean heaven, a crèche is due to open soon.
